During the formation of the Iranian nation-state, the Shahnameh was strategically employed to forge a modern national identity, link the government to Iran’s ancient past, and legitimize political power through cultural nationalism. The study analyzes how the state promoted the Shahnameh via initiatives such as constructing Ferdowsi’s mausoleum, organizing his millennium celebration, and integrating the epic into school curricula. This patronage transformed the Shahnameh from a literary masterpiece into a cornerstone of state ideology, serving to solidify central authority and foster a unified national consciousness. The findings highlight this as a prime example of “cultural nationalism” and “identity policy” aimed at constructing a modern Iranian identity, albeit through a top-down approach that sought to create a link between the modern state and its ancient heritage. توجه گسترده رضا شاه پهلوی به شاهنامه فردوسی بخشی از برنامه کلان او برای بازسازی هویت ملی ایران بود. در دوره‌ای که دولت پهلوی به دنبال ایجاد دولت–ملت مدرن، تقویت اقتدار مرکزی و کاهش نفوذ هویت‌های محلی، مذهبی و قبیله‌ای بود، شاهنامه به‌عنوان منبعی غنی از روایت‌های قهرمانی، وحدت‌طلبانه و ایران‌محور نقش محوری یافت. حکومت با برجسته‌سازی شخصیت‌هایی چون کوروش، داریوش و پهلوانان شاهنامه، سعی در پیوند زدن خود با «ایرانِ باستان» و انتقال این پیام داشت که دولت جدید ادامه طبیعی سنت پادشاهی تاریخی ایران است. ساخت آرامگاه فردوسی (۱۳۱۳)، برگزاری جشن هزارۀ فردوسی، گسترش تدریس شاهنامه در مدارس و بهره‌گیری از مفاهیم «ملیّت ایرانی» و «پادشاهی نیرومند» بخشی از این پروژه مشروعیت‌سازی بود. در نهایت، شاهنامه برای رضا شاه ابزاری فرهنگی–سیاسی شد که هم به تحکیم هویت ملی مدرن کمک می‌کرد و هم مشروعیت سیاسی او را در قالب میراث‌دار ایران کهن تثبیت می‌نمود. /downloadfilepdf/1144285
